- Alanson is a village on the Crooked River at the junction of US 31 and M-68.
- Oden is a small unincorporated community on the north shore of Crooked Lake. It is on US 31 at 45°25′25″N 84°49′41″W[3] It is approximately two miles east of Conway. Oden Island is to the south in Crooked Lake, and is accessible by road from the southern side of the lake.
- Ponshewaing is a small unincorporated community on the north shore of Crooked Lake. It is on US 31 at 45°25′16″N 84°48′12″W[4] It is approximately a mile and a half south of Alanson and one mile east of Oden.

Crooked River Locks
Crooked River Locks
Located on the beautiful Inland Waterway that stretches 36 miles from Crooked River to Lake Huron, the Crooked River Locks was built by the Army Corp of Engineers to allow for easy passage between Crooked River and Crooked Lake. The Locks are now under operational management by Emmet County partnering with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to run the lock.

Crooked Lake Sailors
Crooked Lake Sailors offers sailing lessons for youths ages 9 – 18 and for adults, too.
Learn the fundamentals, how to rig, launch, and sail independently. Also included are nautical terms, knots and safe seamanship practices. Crooked Lake is ideal for sailing since it doesn’t have the swells and waves that are common on Lake Michigan, and the water is much warmer. However, it also is ideal since unlike the usual prevailing west wind on Little Traverse Bay, the wind conditions on Crooked Lake are a little more challenging. Simply put, if you can sail on Crooked Lake, you can sail anywhere.

Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga
Recreation Hall
Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga has 90 campsites with electricity and water, modern restrooms and showers, seven rental cabins (open year round), playground equipment, and open field game areas. The park also has a recreation hall/multi-use building which can accommodate family reunions, weddings, receptions, and meetings and an open-air pavilion where movies are played on Saturday nights through the summer season.
